Once a month, beginning in September through the end of the school year, volunteers assemble at the BackPack Weekend Food Program warehouse to pull, count and organize food items. Official Partners of the program pick up their food orders and take food items back to their respective locations where additional volunteers help pack individual food bags that will be delivered the following month to students. Food bags are delivered by a Partner volunteer on a weekly basis so students have food to take home for the weekend.
Pull Order days are the biggest volunteer days of the month requiring between 20-30 volunteers. Pull days take place on a Tuesday and offer a behind-the-scenes peek at the operational side of the program. Last year, 3,133,153 pounds of food was delivered to the warehouse from September 2019 through April 2020.
