On July 30, Daimler Trucks of North America hosted a virtual presentation to announce and recognize its DaimlerCares 2021 grant recipients. The BackPack Weekend Food Program was among six non-profits awarded $5,000 in grant funding through the DaimlerCares Program.
Each year, Daimler Trucks North America allocates money to a nonprofit in their service area through their DaimlerCares program, which encourages employee involvement by voting for their non-profit of choice that “supports the advancement of children.” Based out of Fort Mill, Daimler Trucks identified not one, but six organizations this year.
Gaston County resident, Robert Simonds, CFO, Daimler Coaches NA, LLC, heard about the BWFP and decided to nominate the organization. Simonds said he wanted to find a local non-profit that supported the Gaston County community, not just those in the Fort Mill area. He noted many Daimler Trucks employees who live in Gaston County and one of their plants located in Gastonia.
Simonds, new to the area, was instrumental in sharing the purpose of the BWFP and presenting its mission to his leadership team for grant consideration.
“What this tells us is that our community extends beyond the immediate borders of Gaston County and that supporters come from all over and all around,” said Dallas Butler, Executive Director. “I want to commend Daimler Trucks of North America and their commitment to helping children’s advancement in communities through their DaimlerCares Program.”
